Fathers of the Revolution are a swing rock group based in Athens, OH. Originally an acoustic trio, they were active in the local coffee shop circuit. Now a quartet, they have since amplified and further developed their folk rock inspired sound into what they call “swing deco,” a bend of surf, swing, and rock genres. As a surf band, they occasionally cover surf standards, though they also have contributed several original compositions to the genre. As a swing band, lacking a horn line means they must compensate with tight gypsy-jazz inspired rhythms and layered, melodic guitar leads. All their swing tunes are original compositions. Lastly, as a rock band, they amplify and distort those surf and swing sounds, blending them together in order to create “swing deco,” a genre built from the craft motifs of older genres and tempered with a rock outfit’s attitude.
